But good lord the RF is attractive. Front, back, side profile, 3/4. Damn thing gets all the angles juuuust right. I'm pumped to test drive the new ND2 when my local Mazda dealer gets them in.

And they're fast. I've seen it at local autocross, and anywhere you look here in Oppo when someone posts about one. Fast time of day set by a STR Miata. And that's before the power bump.

Couldn’t agree more. So sexy, but the visibility sure does look bothersome. Definitely a car that I will continue to admire from afar.

It is like unmiata fast. It actually almost takes it out of the slow car fast category. It's just decidedly quick but in a nonviolent way. I kind of actually like the way my NB accelerates better just because you really have to work for it. But I think with a manual and a nice exhaust, I'd highly appreciate the RF way more.

It's not that bad to see out of. It's still better than 99% of other new cars. It's just that the visibility changes zero with the top up or down. It's about on par with the visibility of driving a soft top Miata with the top up. So it's fine going down the road but backing up in parking lots is awkward. The car is small enough though to make up for it. No issues at all going down the road. Lane changes are mildly off-putting but relying on the mirrors is key.

The RF is hugely impractical is probably my biggest complaint. The trunk is way smaller, there are NO places to put things in the interior, and the trunk lid is way too small to mount a luggage rack. The interior has no spots to shove an umbrella or a jacket or anything. My NB has been perfect for 2 person ski trips or lengthy vacations. I’d never be able to use an RF for that. The storage space behind the seats under the back window is crucial to me and it’s nonexistent here. There is no way to put stuff behind the seats and there are no door card pockets. Plus the only glove box is in between the seats and it’s tiny. The trunk could barely fit our two carryon bags whereas a full size suitcase and a bunch of tools easily fits in mine. Weird how important that stuff can be but it would be a huge red flag of impracticalness for me!

Yeah, the parking lot thing is the main cause for my concern here . Drivers have to back out of perpendicular parking spots often enough that it really should be considered an important part of judging a car’s overall visibility.

If only it had popups :(
But yeah, the ND is a masterpiece, and I’ve only driven the ND1. The ND2 is only going to be better still.

I find it worse in every modern car though. The giant pillars are always in the way and w indows keep getting smaller. Like compared to a newer Nissan, this was about the same.

It’s nice to know that there will still be people m odding their dirt-cheap Miatas in another twenty years. Even looking out for "the good engine" to swap in!

Also, no good way to put in a roll bar for track work...
I’m also very interested in having an ND2 one day down the road.
